Nothing about Em's life is simple.
He's treated worse than anyone in the house, punished for every minor infraction, and has zero chance of ever escaping his current situation. He dreams that someday he'll be free of this nightmare and finally find someone who will want to keep him.
That dream may come true sooner than he thinks.
Saros Tancredi is the most dangerous and powerful man in all of Eastbury. The loyalty he has to his family is unparalleled to anything else. When he wants something, he gets it. He rarely worries and lives without fear. All of that changes one night when he's faced with his own mortality. When it seems like it will all end, out of nowhere, a stranger jumps in and saves his life.
Saros and Em live separate lives in the underworld. Saros is the most compelling man Em has ever known. Em is the savior Saros never knew he needed. When secrets long buried emerge in the midst of a current war, they threaten to tear away any chance the two men have of finding a happy life together.
One thing Saros and Em know for sure—they're not going down without a fight.

It had a very good build up with great development of the characters so by the time they finally connected as a couple, you were strongly rooting for their relationship
This book had lots of action and thrill and there was definitely spice, spice was not an overwhelming part of the story but definitely there
Good narrators
Glad I made the purchase!

This one had Haven Hart written all over it - and I loved it!
Insta attraction - check
Protective mob boss - check
Wreaking vengeance on love interest's tormentors - check
Found family - check
Yaya, it's cheezy and sappy at times, the characters lack a bit of depth, it's probably not very realistic and it touches dark topics but is still pretty low angst. No angst really. Just like the Haven Hart series this isn't a gritty, gory mafia setting but focus is on the relationship between Em and Saros.
And there wasn't anything dark about Saros' (32) and Em's (22) relationship, actually Em describing Saros as a teddy bear with homicidal tendencies fit perfectly. Saros' protective instincts were exactly what Em needed and how he took care of Em, stood up for him and made him a priority for the first time in Em's life was heartwarming.
The found family stepped up without hesitation and Saros' sister being 'fucktose intolerant' is a new favorite! I also enjoyed the quotes and proverbs at the beginning of every chapter. Oh, and the time jump in the epilogue was nice!
Both narrators were new to me and first I was confused as I have never come across an MM romance audiobook with a female narrator. Whoever portrayed Em sounded very feminine, to my ears anyway, and it took me out of the story every now and then. But, I still loved it and The Killer who Kept Me went straight on my comfort reads list!
