Such a fun fantasy romance

I loved the audiobook narration. It was done really well. The characters are interesting & the fun plot sucks you in while also conveying an important message about "perfection" & what freedom really is. The setting draws you in too & I liked the magical island existing. This was such a good read & easy listening. The romance is sweet too. First love captured perfectly.

Clean urban fantasy romance

The story follows the crown princess of a traditional (even reactionary) secret island kingdom who is forced into exile and finds herself washed ashore on the coast of Maine, where she soon falls in love. A thread of mystery runs through the narrative, as readers are left to wonder about the true state of affairs back in her homeland. Themes of freedom, democracy, and cultural contrast emerge as two very different worlds meet. The romance is gentle rather than dramatic—sweet and natural, as though the couple were destined for each other despite their vastly different backgrounds. While the characters aren’t deeply developed and the ending holds few surprises, the book is a pleasant and engaging listen, brought to life by Mackenzie Tolk Houmand’s excellent narration.
