I own multiple versions/translations of this work, and I find this particular version the best because it’s the easiest to understand.
It starts with some very useful history about Stoicism, which sets the perfect stage for the beginner or the seasoned reader of the period.
The translation is perfect for the modern reader, time is spent explaining what is being said and applying it to one’s own life. There are also extensive footnotes which add depth and better increase understanding.
Near the end, there is a summation of what the book teaches and how the wisdom shared applies to daily life. This section is unique and really brings the wisdom home so it can be used by the reader.
The “virtual reader” is not my first choice, it makes mistakes and sometimes complicates understanding. However, as the work teaches, its imperfections are just the way it is, like life; it’s not a problem in itself, but rather a shortsighted attitude is what could make it a problem.

Much enjoyed. The delivery was made with virtual voice which is why I took away a star.

My favorite and most complete “Meditations”.

For 30+ years Kurzweil has shown us that text to speech is not just a matter of running the book through OCR into the voice synthesizer. This book has loads of foot notes, the number being read inline, and at the bottom of a page it goes into reading them. Completely disjointed. I could shoe you how to fix it but it’s not free

Mis formatted for the reader system

I have this book. And I wanted to follow along and it completely changes the context of what Marcus Aurelius is saying by generalizing what he’s saying.

Inaccuracy
