Dr. Miranda Hayes never anticipated finding herself in a relationship with a woman, but her undeniable attraction to Lane Remington was too powerful to resist.

As she surrenders to this unexpected connection, Miranda is forced to confront new facets of her identity. Is this newfound attraction to women just a passing curiosity, or is it the start of something more profound? And as she peels back the layers of Lane's carefully constructed facade, what truths will she uncover, and how will they shape her choices?

Lane Remington has always lived by her own set of unbreakable rules—until Miranda Hayes shattered her iron-clad self-control. After nearly a year of longing, Lane finally has the woman she desires. But will she grow bored, as she has in all her past relationships? Or will the intense passion she feels for Miranda evolve into something deeper, something she's never allowed herself to experience before?

As their lives become increasingly intertwined, both women must navigate a labyrinth of emotions, desires, and fears. In a world where control is everything, what happens when they surrender to the unexpected and let fate take the lead?

I’ve read this series multiple times, so when I saw it in audiobook and realized my favorite narrator Abby Craden was one of the narrators I immediately purchased both books! Audrey Obeyn, the other narrator is new to me and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her portions of narration.

The story shows the complexities of human emotions and how or past may have lasting affects. I won’t share any spoilers, however I will say that it’s worth a read (listen). The plot, character development and pace make for a wonderful story!

With that being said I only have one issue. My dear fave, Abby. She’s so talented and has a way of bringing life to every story she narrators. Her voice is so layered and dynamic, and she has a tonality that brings out so much emotion and expression to each character until there’s a black character. I’ve listened to 100s of books narrated by Abby and every single time she narrates a black woman she sounds like a 50+ year old, southern black one. The black/biracial character in this book, Miranda, is in her 30s and grew up in Seattle. Why does she have a southern accent and lack the vivaciousness that the white characters in the same age group and friends circle have? Abby is my absolute favorite, but it’s definitely something that I’ve noticed. I wish she had the same dimension and variety when narrating black characters.

Excited!

I didn’t like the different voices that were used for the same characters chapter by chapter it took away from the story. The deep voice and accent wasn’t consistent with previous characters introduced.

What stood out the most to me was the incredible women in powerful positions.
