Jump on my banana seat bike and take a ride with me back to the 1970s...when we ran around the neighborhood in small feral packs for hours, played with sharp objects and toys with hot plates, plastigoop, and noxious fumes, and rolled around in the cargo area of our station wagon with no seat belts while Jim Croce piped from the eight-track tape player. We popped wheelies and had bike races without wearing helmets and ate dog biscuits because we thought they were cookies--which we washed down with Kool-Aid or Hawaiian Punch. The times were whacky and weird, miraculous and moronic. There were no cell phones or TV remotes. Peter Frampton, Billy Joel, and Queen records blasted from our four-hundred-pound stereo in the living room. We were so badass we did the Hokey Pokey on roller skates. We ruled the sidewalks and the jungles of our backyards and had the battle scars to prove it. It’s amazing I survived my childhood. Will you survive my childhood? Enjoy the ride!
