Virtual voice is computer-generated narration for audiobooks.

A picturesque seaside town. A body by the boathouse. And a retired detective who thought he’d left murder behind.

When Arthur “Art” Lennox moves to the quiet village of Bracktown-on-Sea, he expects sea breezes, friendly neighbors, and peace. But when a body washes up by the old boathouse, his hopes for a tranquil retirement vanish with the tide.

The victim, a well-connected newcomer with more enemies than friends, has left behind a tangle of grudges, secrets, and half-truths. The suspects range from a hot-tempered fisherman to the victim’s estranged daughter — and in a place this small, everyone knows everyone else’s business… or thinks they do.

Drawn into the investigation by local Detective Sergeant Mila Sharma, Art finds himself navigating gossip, grudges, and the occasional seafront storm in pursuit of the truth. But the deeper he digs, the more he realises that Bracktown’s charm hides dangerous undercurrents — and that some secrets are worth killing for.

Perfect for fans of Richard Osman, Ann Cleeves, and M.C. Beaton, Murder on the Bracktown Tide blends a compelling whodunit with a rich sense of place, colourful characters, and just enough danger to keep the pages turning.

I generally avoid all books with virtual voice. I prefer to have actual people do the narration. Their personal voices have genuine inflection, and I don’t like replacing people with AI fakes.

Awkward virtual voice.

Ooookkkaaayy, i wanted to try a book read by 'Virtual Voice' before i decided if computers can now replace good narrators (or ANY 4 that matter) but i came to the conclusion that the computer does not always pronounce the names properly, the inflection is CLOSE to being acceptable (better than some of the worst narrators), and the computer does not do accents or change its voice 4 each character. Couldnt take it anymore. i will read the book myself. Deleted the audiobook from my library. i hope this Virtual Voice Narration is NOT where we're headed 4 audiobooks.

Virtual Voice, really??!!

I don't like the AI voice. It doesn't give any feeling or atmosphere to the stoty. It doesn't make the story more enjoyable as it drones on.

Good basic mystery with a couple of teists

Good story very cozy. Sets stage for familiar character and an ongoing police procedural team with one outside the bounds of bureaucracy

Excellent virtual voice

Sometimes it was too wordy and I would lose interest. I enjoyed the setting. Good twist.
