We thought death was the end, turns out it’s just the prologue.

RUE

I died, briefly. Then I came back. Now I’m determined to make the most of every minute I have left.

Only problem is I’ve been saddled with supervision. Kane Deveraux is handsome, smug, and cold as a tombstone. So why does he make me feel something more powerful than death?

KANE

As a reaper, I have helped crossover thousands of souls. And not one of them have touched mine…until Rue Chamberlain. She’s stubborn, reckless, and maddeningly radiant.

And for this centuries-old spirit, she’s a living woman that is absolutely off-limits. If I follow the rules, I will lose her. If I break them, I might lose everything.

Grim is a darkly romantic, wickedly funny tale of life, death, and a love that refuses to rest in peace.

Duet multicast narration - Andi Eloise, Joe Arden , James Cassidy, Sean Masters, June DeBorahae, Maxine Mitchell

The narration of this book is pure perfection. They did a phenomenal job giving true life and emotion to this story.

Just wow! I’m not even sure where to begin on putting into words how amazing this book is.

Kane is a grim reaper, a soul collector who is tasked with helping souls cross over. He has been doing it for a very long time. His emotions are basically off and non existent until he meets Rue. She brings out a side of him that he thought was long dead and barried.

Rue is a sweet women who does things like visit older folks in a facility, plays chess with an old man who is her friend, she is also dealing with a heart condition and grief over losing her father two years ago.

These two are forced to spend time together when Kane breaks a rule and his punishment is to be Rue’s babysitter. The banter and tension with these two main characters was amazing.

Every character was preformed in perfection serving their purpose to the story. I truly hope we get more stories from this world.

Absolutely phenomenal

What a wild, stunning, thought-provoking ride.
Every character serves a purpose. Each decision has a reason. Are the lives we lead determined by Fate and Time, or do we have more control over our destinies?
Our MMC, Kane, is a centuries-old Reaper, bound to a life of servitude by Big D (Death). Our FMC, Rue, is inching toward death due to an incurable heart condition. Surely we aren’t meant to find love in the afterlife…
Listen, y’all. I’m not a lover of spooky things, but this book hit juuuust right. While marketed as a romcom, and it does touch on that categorization throughout, it’s so much more. It will crack your heart in two. It will make you question what truly living looks like, and what awaits us after death. Are we destined for more than mundanity or is our fate already woven and determined? Grim feels like a love letter written to every listener, encouraging us to live inside each moment.
There are some places where the writing feels like it could be more cohesive, but as a whole, I really enjoyed the book and found myself fully invested in every single character, down to Death himself.
The soundscape work is beautifully done, though I did find it distracting at times. The sound effects are spot on and, in most cases, enhance the overall listening experience.

Let’s talk about the absolutely legendary cast, shall we?
I can see this being the book that launches Andi’s career into the stratosphere. Her connection to Rue is palpable and it translates masterfully in her performance. Rue is fiery, passionate, and loves with her whole self, and those qualities are translated beautifully by Andi.
Joe takes a character who we should love to hate, and think of as monstrous, and delivers him in a way that demands compassion and empathy.
Our supporting narrators command just as much attention as our leads. James Cassidy as Big D is a highlight, and his comedic timing is absolutely spot on. Big D brings the levity and humor that this story needs.
June deBorahae and Maxine Mitchell as Fate and Time are ethereal, and yet command attention. Special shout-out to June as Rue’s mom and Maxine as Claire Simone, both are stellar.
Last but certainly not least, Sean Masters, who has a wide array of characters up his sleeve. He absolutely steals the show as Seek, and manages to squeeze in several great examples of his accent work.

Gorgeous, funny, and thought-provoking
