Star Wars meets Harry Potter with a sprinkle of Starship Troopers!

This was such a fantastic sci-fi fantasy! The narrator was wonderful and perfect for the story. Great audiobook!

Think Luke Skywalker, but instead of going off to train with Obi-Wan, he goes off into space to a school like Hogwarts to learn about the magic potential inside him. But that school is more adult and training soldiers for an intergalactic war, like Starship Troopers, but without the big bugs. But still evil aliens!

Awesome world building, great lore, incredible found family, just the right dash of a well handled romance, and a cast of characters you will fall in love with! I ate this story up and I cannot wait to continue the story!

Great hero’s journey. I loved the characters, loved the story. It gives enough to want you to keep reading. The narrator was great.

Great narration, great story.

A new SciFi fav!

This story was very enjoyable!
I liked the characters and how they handled being taken to another planet to learn to wield power from the stars. Colton is discovered to (possibly) be the prophesized saviour for the worlds when he unknowingly uses the power to save himself and friends.
Political intrigue, combat simulations, real battles and friendships formed. I liked it all!
The ending just left me wanting more!
I listened on audio and found the narrator, Gabe Walsh Shore excellent at the various characters and accents.

Character & Plot development

Fantastic first book filled with epic yet easy to grasp world building, awesome characters, and a prophecy. I loved the space opera vibes blended with it's own unique magic/fantasy elements. There is a good bit of training sequences / preparing for war but still keeping things light with strong friendships & a sweet romance sub plot. Things build up gradually and very well with a steady pace from start to finish. I was very impressed by the end and can't wait to continue. I am so intrigued by our two main villains. I really loved watching our MC evolve so much throughout this first book and he's such a good dude. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a blend of SciFi/Fantasy & space. Gave me a mix of Red Rising, Star Wars and the overall theme of a "training school" without it actually being that - but instead heading off to another planet to fight. It stands well on its own and is great for a variety of readers & ages. The audiobook was very enjoyable and the prose flowed really smoothly.
