Members of Twelve Step programs often use the phrase "working the program," just what that means is a little bit unclear. Each fellowship has its own definition. But some common elements exist that transcend the various fellowship.
Going to Twelve Step meetings is the basic building blocks of recovery. Usually, a recovering person will attend two or three meetings a week, or more. Becoming involved with meetings provides a solid foundation for recovery. Sharing in meetings, having a service commitment and taking a group leadership position are good ways for members to be involved in the process.
Much of working the program, however, goes on outside the meetings. Most recovering people learn about the program from applying program principles to their real-life problems. Take your time completing this workbook and refer to it often as you "trudge the road to happy destiny."
