I like that the author mentioned that an empath can feel when they are being lied to. The book also mentions that empaths don't like horror or violent movies. Those statements meant a lot to me because they are easy to verify. Now do I feel other people's pain? That's a little more complicated. And how do you verify that the pain belongs to someone else? The simple, very common empath traits, like not wanting to tell people no, or always putting yourself last, those descriptions made it clear to me that I was an empath.
Other books that I read on empaths made me think that I didn't qualify. Those books described empaths who were overcome by extreme emotions when they were in large groups. I never felt that, or haven't realized it yet, but I do feel completely worn out and tired after being at a social event.
This book explained very well the variety and types of empaths in the world and traits that seem common to them all. Some of those traits were creativity, problem solving, and a desire to help people. That they were rule breakers and rebels when the rules really didn't make sense. We question everything, and spend a lot of our time watching the show in our own head, or daydreaming. This book helped me to see that empaths are very different and unique in their own particular ways. There is no absolute standard or checklist.

A good explanation of what it means to be an Empath.
