Abandoned by her husband of twenty-two years, not quite destitute, Donna Hendricks finds a little red hardbound in a San Francisco used bookstore for a quarter. Sure that this ancient looking volume is worth a lot, she buys it without looking inside. Later, when she opens it, the book is blank except for the first page that word for word tells of Donna finding a little red hardbound in a used bookstore for a quarter, sure that it is worth a lot and later opening the book. . . The last sentence printed suggests what Donna should do next.

Each time she opens the book another page or two has filled in telling about what she did and what to do next.

She follows the book and with the last of her savings travels to the small village of Elk, California where her true misadventure begins.

Definitely a Winner

This story was really clever. I listened twice. I LOVED the characters and would listen to fragments of the story just for their company. The narrator was perfect; her voice was soothing and she depicted the characters’ moods and attitudes well. The time travel was contemporary, I could relate to it. This book is definitely a winner.
