Step into a novel that people call “enchanting,” “captivating,” and “totally different than anything I’ve ever read.”
She was different. No one knew why—not even her.
Maddie Pace has a gift—an ability to glimpse a person’s past just by meeting their eyes. It’s a blessing that isolates her… and a curse that others would do anything to control.
Her mother, Cynthia, will stop at nothing to keep Maddie safe. But when they’re torn apart, each is thrust into a world beyond comprehension—one imprisoned, one awakening in a realm between life and death.
As years pass and powers grow, their bond becomes the only hope of reunion across worlds.
Narrated by award-winning voice artist Linda Jones, this unforgettable audiobook brings Steven Decker’s acclaimed story to life with heart, suspense, and wonder. A tale of love, loss, and destiny that lingers long after the final word.

The storyline has a little bit of a challenge if you’re a strong Christian because it does not show heaven and hell as the Bible puts it out. It also shows that the main character sort of loses her faith as she’s going along however, it sure does whet your appetite to listen to the sequel. There are four of these books in the series and it certainly made me want to buy the other ones. The set up for the second book was wonderful.
I highly recommend this book for an interesting read. I gave it four stars on the storyline because of the fact that it could cause Christians to have a problem and it does seem that the Steven Decker likes to write about the after life a lot. The narrator does not just do the southern accent well but seems to do the French accent and other accents well, also she’s very flexible and great to listen to. I can see why it says she’s an award-winning narrator.
I can definitely say that the storyline focuses on the love of a mother toward her daughter and the amazing differences that can make in a life, overcoming crazy obstacles which I cannot foreshadow because I can’t give the story away.
There are also things quoted from the Bible that are slightly misunderstood, but it is a fictional story. That said, I am still interested in listening to the other books in the series and that proves how good the storyline is because generally, I do not like things that miss-quote the Bible at all.
The narrator is wonderful and the storyline is interesting

Cynthia’s strong defense of her faith is a big part of the story, so if that’s not your thing, it’s best read simply as the character’s perspective rather than a message.
The narration was solid, and I appreciated that the chapters clarified whose POV it was — otherwise it might’ve been hard to follow at times.
Overall, an enjoyable and thought-provoking listen.
