Eighteen-year-old Ira Hill grew up in a trailer park in Bellingham, Washington with a drunk single father. Kivati grew up on an island in the sky with a family who believed he was a god reincarnate.

When the spirits revoke Kivati's power and give it to Ira, Kivati vows to kill the young sorcerer and all others like him. A paranoid Ira gathers a group of worthy sorcerers to face Kivati as Kivati raises thunderbirds from eggs.

Journeying through the coastal northwest, other dimensions, and multiple spirit bodies, they learn of darker villains and greater powers looming than those they sought in each other.

Just finished Legend of Ira Hill and—wow—Sam Fletcher can write. Like, the kind of elegant prose that makes you reread a sentence just to taste it again. The story hits that sweet spot between myth and real life, grit and grace.

Ira Hill’s journey is rugged, funny, and quietly profound—the kind of book that makes you want to grab a backpack, a journal, and maybe a whiskey. Fletcher’s writing has that rare flow where even the pauses feel poetic.

This one’s going on my “Damn, I wish I’d written that” shelf.
