Kai is the hardest working warrior in his generation... and the unluckiest. In a world where most people receive magical skills, classes, or cultivation, Kai has nothing but his wits and his strength. His only choice will be to forge a new path against fate, no matter where it takes him.

Savage monsters pour endlessly from the wasteland, threatening the survival of civilization itself. They say that human strength isn't enough and only those gifted with destined powers have a chance of making a difference. Kai is hungry to fight in that war, to be someone who matters. That hunger will take him across a world stranger and more terrible than he could possibly have imagined.

I don't typically like books where the author overly beats down their MC and for me for over half the story I was standing at the cliff edge from which I was going to throw this story. This first half of this story was sooo frustrating and the author or authors gave no hint that anything would change for the MC. Because I didn't see any future potential I not sure what kept me reading other than the high reviews for this book and also my curiosity as to where this story was going. It Very close for me and I several times almost gave up on this book. A word of warning to the Authors. You need to leave hints of some concrete potential for your MC to give your readers faith in you as a writer and that this story will have an interesting conclusion.

This was really close for me

The characters all feel like they exist in a lived in world. The relationships feel real and sometimes people act irrationally like real people do. The power progression is interesting and reflect some of the unfairness of life and real world wealth injustice.

Underdogs story

I pre-ordered this because I thoroughly enjoy Sarah Lin's other work, and this book did not disappoint. By the end of book 1 I was both satisfied with the ending and hungry for more.

Good book

Depthless Hunger is a new series by author Sarah Lin that continues her excellent character development and interesting stories. The protagonist, Kai, faces an extraordinary amount of misfortune early on, but readers are encouraged to root for him as he forges ahead to find a way to develop power and abilities to help save the land from a monster incursion. As she has done in other series, Lin has the character develop his powers in a new way, this time in a unique manner. It will be interesting to see which of the other characters have further interaction with Kai, and what further adventures await in future books.

Great New Series

As someone who has read this story from almost the beginning when it began on royal road honestly its one of my favorites in the genre. so many stories advertise 'slow burn' and 'weak to strong' but what they really mean is a slightly weak MC who becomes OP quickly after the first book or so. Depthless hunger is one of the few stories that really lives up to the premise and every single shred of power the main cast gets feels earned through their grit and effort, if that sounds like something you'd enjoy i cannot recommend this book enough as it manages to do all the and also make some of the best written main cast in the genre.

A Truly Hidden Gem
