All Sewn Up

Barrie Bennett has a talent for turning junk into unique and useful things. It’s a profitable enterprise. But so far, it hasn’t been without its problems. The last one ended her up in the hospital. That won’t happen again. No way.

Her newest find: a 100-year-old sewing machine cabinet, will soon be a bathroom vanity. Found in one of the drawers is a book. Not just any book. A first edition Grapes of Wrath, valued somewhere around $50K. She doesn’t feel right keeping it. Unfortunately, returning the book to its original owner causes a whole mess of trouble.

Meanwhile, her sister has moved in, lock, stock and divorce papers. Though the girls look identical, they are complete opposites. Example: Holland eats hummus. What is that exactly? She detests Barrie’s diet, hobbies, and most of all, her relationship with Captain Conklin. “Why do you antagonize the man?” she asks.

“No, Holland, Conklin’s on the warpath for me. Just pay attention.”

Conklin's already slapped her in jail once. Can she find the owner of the book before he does it again?
