"When you're on the naughty list, sometimes you need a mountain man with a very big...cabin."

PEPPER:
Working as the head elf at North Pole Village was supposed to be festive fun—until I caught my ex embezzling from the charity toy drive. Now I'm on the run in a snowstorm, with evidence stuffed in my pointy hat and nowhere to hide except the cabin of the broodiest mountain man I've ever seen. Pax Forrester is six-foot-four of silent intensity who clearly wants me gone, but the blizzard and my vengeful ex have other plans. I need to lay low until I can expose Nolan's scheme, but hiding out is getting complicated. Especially when Pax looks at me like he wants to unwrap more than just Christmas presents. Did I mention I'm still wearing my elf costume? Jingle bells have never been this dangerous.

PAX:
Three years of perfect solitude ruined by one woman in candy-cane striped tights. Pepper Prescott burst through my door in the middle of a blizzard, bringing trouble, tinsel, and the first real temptation I've felt since leaving civilization behind. When her corrupt ex-fiancé shows up with armed "security," my protective instincts kick in—instincts I thought I'd buried after Afghanistan. Now we're snowed in together, plotting to take down the town's crooked mayor, and I can't stop thinking about how her curves would feel against my hands. She says it's just until the storm breaks. I say some storms are worth getting caught in. This Christmas, I'm putting someone on my nice list for the first time—and I plan to be very, very naughty.

Ok. This was my first "virtual narration" audiobook, as well as my last! It was difficult to get through. I struggled, but I'm no quitter, so I persevered. I seriously think I deserve recognition, or a medal or something for listening to this from start to finish.
The story itself wasn't awful! Granted, it was your typical holiday romance. Very on par with what you would expect from the title. It was predictable but still provided a little spice along with the warm holiday fuzzies. Quite on brand with the usual of its genre... almost as if it may have been written by AI as well as narrated by AI....
The narration, however, was appalling. It lacked inflection and emotion. It was so obviously read by AI/"virtually narrated". It was painful. In fact, I might have nightmares about certain parts of the narration that were so unnatural that it was scary. Listening to a virtual narration of "mmmmmm" made me think there was a glitch in the matrix. Absolutely, under no circumstances, do I recommend virtual narration. It peaked my curiosity but now that I've scratched that itch, NEVER AGAIN!

This was painful to listen to
