I’m surrounded by two hundred thousand elves, yet somehow, I’m still lonely.

After a rough few millennia, the past decade has finally brought us peace and security—and justified my choices as our leader. But as chaos gives way to calm, I have more time for myself… yet it’s not what I want it to be. I’ve been alone for a long time, but before my people and work needed me more. Now the lonely hours stretch into eternity.

Until I meet Jared.

He’s my perfect match in every way; a teacher, a gardener, a cat dad. He loves books, nature, and interacting with others. He’s sweet, funny, kind, and we’re fire in the bedroom. The only hiccup? He’s human, and he doesn’t know other species exist.

Legally, we haven’t been together long enough for me to tell him I’m not human, and it’s getting harder and harder to keep this secret. To keep part of myself from him… to lie. But what if he learns the truth—a truth that will shatter the core of his beliefs—and can’t handle it?

What if he can’t forgive the lies?

The story was fun, with some genuinely funny moments, and it kept me interested enough to listen all the way through. The characters were enjoyable, and I never felt like giving up on the book.
The only thing that didn't work for me was the narration. This is completely a matter of personal preference, but I found the voice too raspy, which made it harder for me to fully enjoy the audiobook.
If the narration style works for you, you may enjoy this much more than I did.

Fun story, but the narration wasn't for me

I always wondered what happened to our dear elf king after the other series ended, and I’m so glad he finally got his HEA with such a kind and lovely person.

Finally the story of our elf king!

I was beyond excited when I found out the author wasn’t leaving this world yet! Rauðlfr Is the king of the elves and lost most of his family when the horrible thing that happened that brought them to our world. He is doing an amazing job taking care of his people, but he is lonely. Whey he agrees to step in and teach a magic class he didn’t expect to meet someone like Jared. Jared was just as smitten with Rauðlfr. The only thing I didn’t like is the whole keeping secret the community and who Rauðlfr really was. There was a train wreck coming that you could see coming a mile away. But it needed to happen and it made out MC’s stronger in the end. I can’t wait for more.

Great start to this spinoff series

Raðulfr is the Elf leader, Jared’s a kindergarten teacher and Wiccan. They meet when Raðulfr takes over magic lessons from another teacher that cancelled. As they talk they become very close and start falling in love. On a date that Raðulfr plans, Jared learns the truth about the community, After some time Jared lets Raðulfr know he’s in love.

It’s a sweet book and I loved every minute reading it, like other two related series.

~ side note Raðulfr is pronounced the Icelandic way ~

*Just to add…
After reading this in ebook form, I had to go re-listen (yes I own the audios too) Hidden Species, Here Be Dragons & Demons-in-Law, before listening to this one.

The narrator did an excellent job, can’t wait for the next in the series.

I was very happy to see this series continue. I enjoyed the first book and can’t wait for the next one to be released. Joel Leslie is a wonderful narrator and I highly recommend anything he narrates.

Good story
