They say love makes fools of us all. It certainly makes idiots out of some of us.

It’s Dash’s second Halloween in Hastings Rock, and this year, he’s determined to have a normal spooky season—he’s going to hang out with his friends, hand out lots of candy, and seize every available opportunity for snuggles with a certain deputy.

Fate, though, has other things in store.

When Dash’s friend Keme is arrested for murder, Dash assumes it’s a misunderstanding—after all, this is Keme we’re talking about. But it turns out, not everyone in Hastings Rock trusts Keme. Or likes him. In fact, plenty of people are downright afraid of him, and for them, the arrest confirms what they’ve always suspected: that Keme is a seriously bad apple. And when Keme’s clothes turn up not far from the scene of the crime, covered in the victim’s blood, it’s the final piece of proof for the court of public opinion.

It'll be up to Dash to prove Keme’s innocence.

But the real killer might have something to say about that.

I absolutely loved getting Keme's story. and the scene between Keme and Dash - hold my breath good. Loved every second of this and the mystery that Gregory Ashe is known for. Cozy's aren't usually my thing but I'm loving this series!!

I love how much of a family this group has become. These books have become more emotional as the series is progressing. Dash broke my heart (with his parents) in the earlier book and now Keme, who has also been left to fend for himself. But the last picks are his family now and when bad things happen they support and love him. Watching Dash mature and be present for Keme hurt my heart and warmed it all at once. This is another excellent mystery but it is the characters, and the excellent narration, that keep this series at the top of my list.

Each time I see the latest volume show up in Audible, it's my first pick to select right away. I love these stories and love how the characters have developed over time. I will say Keme can be highly frustrating and irritating much of the time--sometimes I just want to reach through and slap him--but I guess that brings about the charm of his relationship with Dash. I loved having the central story line do a deep dive into one of the other Last Picks characters.

My First Pick

Dash’s feral wolf child (in Dash’s own words lol) Keme is accused of murder, so Dash investigates because he doesn’t believe Keme did it. Bobby, Indria, Fox and Mille don’t believe he did it too.

I loved the story and getting to know more about Keme and why he doesn’t sleep/live with his mother which breaks my heart a little. I know Keme gets the girl but I do hope the douchebags that jumped him eventually get what’s coming to them, it’s the only thing that doesn’t get mentioned again and I so want karma to get them.

Dash does prove who had done the murders, yes there’s more than one 😉

Once again the narrator has done a wonderful job.

One of the Last Picks accused of Murder.
