It's extremely inconvenient to fall for your bloodsworn enemy…

Yilan is a Fetch, a skilled female assassin and spy. As the powerful Nephilim sweep across the continent, slaughtering and conquering every nation in their wake, she is tasked with killing their legendary General, Melek Handras.

When Yilan infiltrates the Nephilim camp and allows herself to be captured by these violent creatures, she is brought face to face with her very large, very compelling target.

Melek is uneasy when the female Fetch so quickly surrenders her secrets in exchange for her life. But then the King makes him personally responsible for ensuring she does not escape.

Forced to keep the clever, deadly woman close, he quickly becomes familiar with her scathing humor and cutting insight. He is forced to admit that Yilan is a woman capable of handling herself, even in his ruthless world… the kind of woman he finds disturbingly desirable.

But war does not wait. Soon, Melek must return to the battlefield to lead his warriors against her people—leaving Yilan in the hands of his brutal comrades who are hungry for nothing more than victory over an enemy.

Especially a very pretty one.

From the bestselling author of Flameborne , Aimee Lynn, comes a heavenly new universe in which angels are the enemy, and a thief is the world's last hope.

Tropes include: Dark romantasy, enemies-to-lovers, touch her and die, forced proximity, one bed, age gap, he falls first, strong FL, witty banter/narration, slowburn to high spice, and a helluva lot of violence. This book includes frequent use of very strong language and open-door love scenes between divinely appointed couples. For mature listeners.

I very much enjoyed this!! It wasn’t at all what I expected and was a breath of fresh air! Found the focus on Melek’s son Gall condition as a pivotal part of the plot also wonderful and heartfelt.
My only issues with this is with the narration. Both narrators were great, though I liked the MMC’s voice and acting, he is not who I would have chosen for a character like Melek. He needed more of a growly, alluring voice.. his voice even had a slight southern sounding accent that took me out of the character a bit. ALSO, this NEEDS to be Duet, NOT duel. The female narrator did an acceptable job on male voice but Lordy men just cannot do women’s voices- it completely yanks me out of the story.

Great, unique story!

I was about to give up on this book, but I kept going at the end. Everything makes sense. It’s so good.

Amazing

I'm so glad I ignored the reviews of ppl who said "too religious" bc this is NOT a religious story at all! The author only used creatures from the Bible for the story. The story doesn't even follow religious views or I would have DNF'd it. If you turned away bc of others saying this is religious you are missing out. Especially if you love a slow burn push and pull kind of romanticy. I wish they would have broken up the narrators lines a differently is have the man read the male lines and women read female lines. Either way it didn't take from the story at all. I don't leave many reviews but felt it necessary to point out that it's NOT RELIGIOUS! Whoever, made those comments either doesn't understand what religion is or didn't read the actual book!

Push and pull (definitely NOT religious)
