Kevin Richardson never wanted to be his older brother’s keeper. Overshadowed by a deathbed promise to his father years earlier, he and a teammate rescue his addict brother and begin planning their escape from the Seattle area. But after a dark fleeting moment of temptation, Kevin learns he is not so perfect himself and chooses to live by an honor code in the chaotic world—no matter the price.

Procuring the equipment that they need for the hike over the mountains, Kevin accepts that not all his comrades can make the trip, reluctantly agreeing to escort several kids and some new friends to safety. But when two members of the party become trapped in a deadly situation, Kevin and his allies must fight unknown enemies and use every ounce of ingenuity to push through the danger.
