Adrian and Kendra are a match made in Hell.

Adrian's dark past left him with a twisted imagination that takes him deep into the forest where he does unspeakable things. Kendra is new to town. She has a dark secret of her own—and an unhealthy obsession with a boy she hasn't even met yet.

Until Adrian met Kendra, he had his deviant urges under control. When she comes to him for help, his capacity for violence goes beyond anything either of them could have imagined.

Seriously, it’s so dark and gross but full makes sense. It’s a grotesque splatter analysis of whether people are born the way they are… or if they can be made into a monster…

One of the gnarliest books I’ve ever read

I love a good revenge tale. This goes so deep and hard into the ugliness and effects of bullying, it leaves me feeling so heavy hearted. Nelson goes hard on the violence, and there’s one kill in this book that will haunt me for quite a while! All the gross aside, he weaves one hell of a powerful tale. It really cut me deep.

And the narration was top notch. I love the narrator’s ability to deliver even the most outlandish and disgusting things in a way that sounds completely “business as usual”.

Such great Splatterpunk!

Made a Monster is a brutal, disturbing splatterpunk novel that completely broke my heart.
This book is vile, grotesque, nauseating, and absolutely packed with graphic violence. It is not for the faint of heart, and I cannot stress enough that you should check the trigger warnings before picking it up.
Beneath all of the blood and brutality, though, is a heartbreaking message. This story is a reminder that when children are abused, neglected, and treated like they don't matter, monsters can be created. The people who were supposed to love and protect them failed them, but so did everyone else who looked the other way. A little compassion, kindness, or someone simply asking if they were okay might have changed everything.
As horrifying as this book is, there were moments that felt incredibly satisfying. Watching the people responsible for creating those monsters finally face the consequences of their actions was graphic, gruesome, and strangely cathartic.
If you're a fan of extreme splatterpunk and aren't afraid of truly disturbing content, this is one I would recommend. It's disgusting, heartbreaking, and unforgettable in equal measure.
Why I enjoyed it:
Brutal, unapologetic splatterpunk
A surprisingly emotional story beneath the gore
Explores abuse, neglect, and the consequences of cruelty
Satisfying revenge against those who deserved it
Memorable and deeply unsettling
Please check your trigger warnings before reading. This is an extremely dark, graphic, and disturbing novel.
