A man's body is found in a Kentish hop field, his brutal death marked by horrific injuries.

As Detective Kay Hunter begins to investigate, the case quickly reveals itself to be anything but routine. The local farming community is tight-lipped, the victim’s background is unclear, and the evidence uncovers a trail of conflicting stories and long-held secrets.

With the media and her superior officers demanding answers, Kay must navigate the lies and unravel the truth to solve one of the most complex murder investigations of her career.

In a landscape shaped by tradition and silence, some secrets are buried for a reason.

What Evil Hides is the fifteenth book in the best-selling Detective Kay Hunter series, and perfect for listeners who love twisty murder mysteries.

This series is one of my favorites, and I've been on board from the beginning. This 15th book stands alone, and it's more police procedural than ever. There's a ghastly murder with no suspects and readers follow along as the police force carefully builds the case. It's fascinating, and Alison Campbell's narration alongside Rachel Amphlett's words is a stellar combination that makes the reader experience the same feels as the characters.

What I miss as this series goes farther and farther along is that Kay, our kick-butt protagonist, is rarely in any kind of danger any more. She seems more beaten down than ever, trudging along in the job and fighting politics. Also, the earlier books provided readers much-needed and delightful breaks from the intensity of Kay's investigations, and these were via Kay's partner, Adam, and his menagerie of animals and their antics. He and his animals are barely a blip in this book. I also miss the insights into Kay's personal life, like we had in earlier books.

This installment of the series ends with the possibility of a big shake up on Kay's team, so I assume there are more adventures in store. I'll be there for them all!

Kay Hunter fan for the long haul
