In 1984 the International Ecumenical Fellowship held its 17th International Conference, entitled 'The Pilgrim's Way', at Canterbury. Christians from many countries and different denominations gathered to worship together, to get to know each other and to share experiences of Christian pilgrimage from different traditions and cultural settings. A unifying feature of the Conference was the daily short meditation on some aspect of the English spiritual tradition given by Dr Lorna Kendall. The meditations, which we publish here, comprise simple introductions to five people whose lives and writings stand as waymarks to guide and encourage their fellow pilgrims: the Venerable Bede, Julian of Norwich, Richard Hooker, John Bunyan and, in our own time, Archbishop Michael Ramsey of Canterbury.
