Five books. One sprawling conspiracy. A city drowning in blood and secrets.

Alderman James thought atonement would be quiet—keep his head down in Georgian Dublin, solve petty crimes, and bury the sins of his youth beneath duty and discipline. Then the Dolocher tears its first throat open in the snow-choked Liberties, and James discovers that some cases don't end when the killer hangs. They metastasize. Over five novels spanning years of murder, manipulation, and mounting dread, James descends into a nightmare where every solved mystery reveals three more lurking beneath. Copycat killers who know impossible secrets. Country mansions hiding Gothic horrors. Gallows escapes that defy logic. And at the center of it all—a conspiracy so vast, so intricately woven through Dublin's underworld, that James has been a puppet in someone else's design from the very first corpse. Joined by the diabolical Hellfire Clubman Mr. Edwards, hunted by shadows that wear human faces, James must navigate a world where trust is fatal and every answer demands a terrible price.

This complete five-book collection includes the prequel Rise of the Dolocher—witness the birth of the beast before following James through four novels of escalating terror as he races to unmask the architect of Dublin's darkest age. Each murder solved brings him closer to the truth. Each truth brings him closer to destruction.

The entire saga. The complete nightmare. No escape until the final page.

This series predates Jack The Ripper by 100 yrs, in other words it is set in 1788. It is also set in Dublin. It’s a pretty good serial killer series and the architect of these crimes isn’t the killer…not a give away as the readers know and we are waiting for the characters to catch up

While the the voice isn’t bad (deep and non-irritating) it suffers what all virtual voice offerings do - “pronunciation”

They can’t get the names the same and does is not pronounced doze. There are a few more, but for VV it’s not bad.

Also this is history and the author needed to do a little more fact checking. By 1801 (3rd book) Ireland including rich homes did not have telephones. The phone company didn’t start until 1880 in Britain/Ireland and even wealthy homes didn’t have phones until then. So the author has the characters using a phone that won’t exist for about 79 yrs.

If you can get passed these little flaws and aren’t looking for gratuitous violence of today’s slasher films (there are murder scenes) then you will like this series.
