In this brief study Sister Eileen Mary, aware of the difficulties created by the sentimental image of Saint Thérèse which was often presented in the past, attempted to uncover the true likeness and greatness of Thérèse. It is precisely in virtue of its genuine and never specious ‘littleness’ that the Saint’s famous ‘Little Way’ is shown to be paradoxically great, and accessible to all, whatever their circumstances. The life of Thérèse—brief, uneventful, and entirely hidden—demonstrates powerfully that obedience to the precepts of the Gospel, practised for the sake of love alone, is fruitful far beyond the limits of time and place.
