Fantastic Collection of Short stories!

Bone Chimes was such a weird and unhinged collection of short stories! I enjoyed this more than I was expecting to. A few were genuinely scary, some were kind of comical, and others were just downright creepy. We have death machines, sentient couches, werewolves, men giving off Norman Bates vibes, creepy hillbilly circus clowns. I feel like there's something for everyone to enjoy! But only if you're into extreme horror 😉.

This is definitely worth checking out and gives a good introduction into Kristopher Rufty's work!

A fun collection

An interesting and varied collection of short horror stories. I enjoyed how different each story was from the others. While some of them were completely unique and imaginative, others I felt like I'd read before. My biggest complaint is that so many were centered around sex or sexual assault which is not a theme I'm particularly drawn to.

A few of my favorites were:

The Chomper- What would you be willing to give up for the perfect house in the perfect neighborhood?

The Wager- Well, that escalated quickly. Just add this to my list of reasons to not participate in bets.

GearHarts’ Wife- Maybe it's better to not meet your idols. While this is one with a story that felt familiar to me, I think it's my favorite of the whole collection.


I liked the narrator, but wish he had a bit more range for the voices in the different stories. After a while his narration started to blend the stories together.
