Letty and Carol, two young black women, 18 and 17 respectively, best friends since early childhood and now high school students, are working on a remarkable organ preservation/restoration project having for several years assisted their now deceased neighbor the late Dr. Harry Bascom to not only better preserve but restore life to newly deceased organs. After his sudden death, the girls have been only more determined to succeed, aided by a legacy from Bascom of his lab and funds to carry on. However, not only do they face technical challenges in the lab, but many challenges in an outside world that offers little support and much opposition to them. Even real menace as an old foe of Dr. Bascom tries to insinuate herself into their lives as a friend and protector while seizing the work for herself. Above all, however, the work itself poses dangers the girls and their late mentor never imagined.
