April 21st, 2026 - Happy feast of St. Anselm!

With a fragile ceasefire set to expire within days, President Donald Trump warned yesterday that “lots of bombs” will “start going off" if no agreement is reached. Tehran, meanwhile, has publicly cast doubt about whether it will attend the new round of talks at all. The Louisiana gunman who shot 8 children, 7 of them his own, has been identified as Shamar Elkins. He was 37 years old and was fatally shot at the end of a police chase. Family said he had called his mother on Easter Sunday in tears, warning that he was suicidal. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRémer is leaving her position in the Trump admin; Keith Sonderling will take her place as Acting Labor Secretary. Cardinal Frank Leo of Toronto is calling on the Canadian Prime Minister to support legislation blocking euthanasia for those whose sole condition is mental illness. Euthanasia now accounts for 1 in every 20 deaths in Canada. Spain, Slovenia and Ireland have asked the European Union to discuss the suspension of its association treaty with Israel. Pope Leo is traveling today to Equatorial Guinea, the final stop on his apostolic visit to Africa.

    Apr 17 2026

April 17th, 2026 - Happy feast of Pope St. Anicetus and St. Stephen Harding!

President Trump said Iran has “agreed” not to develop or possess a nuclear weapon. He added that the U.S. has “a very good relationship with Iran right now,” which he thinks is because of “a combination of about four weeks of bombing and a very powerful blockade.” The Trump administration has ended an $11 million federal contract with Catholic Charities in Miami, to very mixed reactions. President Trump announced a 10-day Israel-Lebanon cease. Human Rights Watch reports that Catholics in China are facing escalating repression, and it is becoming more difficult for them to practice the Faith. A fake bomb threat was called in regard to Pope Leo’s brothers’ home.
