It started with a dandelion. Innocuous. Ubiquitous. Who knew it was a warning?

After claiming his big bonus, things are coming up roses for Roger Mulligan. A job he loves. A house that feels like home. Money in the bank. A solid roof over his head and job security.

But when he finds a dandelion on the pristine grounds of Shackleford House, he starts down a twisted, garden path. Old man Shackleford says the fairies have a problem, the pixies keep falling down on the job, and the house seems to grow weaker by the day.

He's soon tossed into a confusing mixture of fact and fantasy, accompanied by Shackleford's cousin and—of all things—a stray cat. Surrounded by the fantastical, it's hard to tell magic from mundane.

I have thoroughly enjoyed both selections of the Wizards Butler series. They are well written with interesting characters, very well narrated, and interesting story lines. I very much appreciate the lack of blood and guts and violence and just being able to enjoy a nice story!

A lovely low-key fantasy adventure

I liked the book and I enjoy this author. I didn’t like it quite as much as the first one as that one had more excitement. Based on the ending I assume there will be another. I look forward to it. I really like the characters.

Enjoyed the book.

Im biased because the first one is one of my favorite books of all time. This one had a few differences that I didn't like, occasionally it switched perspectives and I preferred the style of the first book. This one also had more social commentary that was interesting. I hope there's more in the series though.

some style differences but still enjoyable

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, "The Wizard's Butler," so I was eager to continue in this book. The story continues the development of Mulligan as a butler for a magical house, and Barbara as the heir apparent. The story lacks the sense of urgency of the first book, but I felt like it laid down necessary groundwork for future books. And of course, Gideon the talking cat, looks to be a fantastic addition to the team!

Who doesn't love a story with a talking cat?
