A sequel to “The Last Resort”, “The Final Rainforest” is a mystery set in the Pacific Northwest, dealing with family, social, and racial tensions amid the small town, cities and wilderness of the Olympic Peninsula. At its center is the investigation into the death of a young man that exposes the darker undercurrents of racist groups, addiction, and fractured relationships in this seemingly idyllic, rural setting. The story begins with the discovery of Patrick James Curran’s body in the Hoh Rainforest by relatives, Patrick and Jillian Curran. Although stabbed with a Tlingit tribal dagger, his death had another cause, suggesting a staged murder scene intended as a warning. Special Agent Andrew Steelhead of the Investigative Branch of the Park Service, a former Quileute Tribal Police officer, leads the inquiry, bringing cultural insight and experience to the case, eventually uncovering Patrick James’ secretive associations, revealing a network of extremists.
