AI cameras will soon fine drivers blocking trolley lanes

View show details
It’s going to cost you if you block a trolley. The warning period has already begun. Starting April 1, $51 fines will be issued to drivers who illegally park in trolley lanes in Philadelphia. SEPTA and the Philadelphia Parking Authority have installed artificial intelligence-powered cameras on trolley Routes 1 through 5 and the G (the old Route 15). It’s the same system that’s been used on buses over the last seven months. The PPA has collected more than $4 million in fines. SEPTA says the AI system has improved travel times by up to 6%.
