NO! NO! NO! GET THE OTHER EDITION! (Alessandro Juliani narrator or YouTube Roger Zelazny narrator versions are both better)

There are 3 main types of narration: 1. Voice Acting, 2. Reading, 3.Full Cast. The Alessandro Juliani narration has voice acting where he does voices for different characters, while Eric Jason Martin’s narration is more of a plain reading. Unfortunately it’s halting in a way that breaks up the poetic lyricism of Zelazny’s words. His narration is slow (6h 17m) compared to the edition narrated by Alessandro Juliani (5h 31m), and the YouTube recording of Zelazny himself reading Nine Princes in Amber (5h 26m). The slow plodding reading takes something away from the natural lyrical quality of Zelazny’s prose. This new version also lacks the atmosphere created by the eerie intro music and occasional sound effects of the Alessandro Juliani version. I’d love to hear a full cast version of these books like they did with the Harry Potter series. The books themselves are among my all time favorites and deserve 5 stars, but this recording doesn’t add new art, music, or anything else other than the different narrator. If for some reason you must buy this edition of the audiobook narrated by Eric Jason Martin or prefer plain readings to voice acting, then I recommend listening to the book at 1.10x speed, but that still doesn’t get rid of the narrator’s annoying lisp. It’s like a robot with a lisp got ahold of the book and tried to convey human voices and emotions but couldn’t quite manage it. At minimum i recommend taking a few minutes to preview the book with the 3 narrators and then decide whose voice and style you prefer. Dear Recorded Books (publisher of these new editions), please stop having Eric Jason Martin narrate these books as it is not going well and didn’t go well with Jack of Shadows either. Thanks!
