Surviving Cloverdale

Confrontation by Bruno Miller is another fantastic entry in this series and easily a 5/5 read for me. What really makes these books work is how grounded the characters feel even while the world around them is falling apart. Vince continues to shine as the reluctant leader who never gets a break, and the tension of trying to rebuild a community while deciding who can actually be trusted keeps the story moving at a fast pace. The survival elements feel believable, the group dynamics are strong, and the looming threat from the looters adds just the right amount of pressure without turning the book into nonstop chaos for the sake of action. You can feel the desperation, exhaustion, and determination in every chapter.

What I enjoyed most is that the series understands survival is not just about fighting zombies, raiders, or the apocalypse — it’s about trying to stay human when every bad decision has consequences. The emotional stakes hit just as hard as the dangerous situations, and that balance makes the story addictive. Every time the group starts finding their footing, something new threatens to tear it all apart, which made it nearly impossible to stop reading. Great read! Now please hurry with Book 5 because ending it there should honestly be considered a crime against impatient readers like me.

Realistic look at life…

…after an EMP. I liked this part of the book. However, I couldn’t figure out why an otherwise smart guy wouldn’t be more on his guard around unknown people. Also, why he would decide to live in town instead of on a self-sufficient homestead safely outside of town. Still, a decent story and a nice change from overdone ones with all sorts of unrealistic scenarios.

Decent Story, but…

Why are outsiders who scavenge “Looters” while the protagonists who do the same thing “survivors”?

All these stories come with that same premise. When we steal we are moral and right. When they steal, they are looters and thugs.

It’s something to think about!

Good series.

I’ve enjoyed all four books in this series. I hope there is more to come.
