One woman’s spiritual odyssey from belief to unbelief to understanding how belief invites us to learn how to sit in uncertainty and face our doubts.

In this candid, refreshingly honest exploration of faith and grief, Julie Taylor takes us on her transformative journey of walking away from belief—and choosing to come back on her own terms.

With a blend of science and storytelling, Taylor reveals how our beliefs act as the ultimate gatekeepers of our brains, determining how we process every single stimulus. Through both heartbreak and hope, she shows how these gatekeepers shape not just our thoughts, but our experience of reality itself.

From cynical skeptic to reluctant believer, Taylor’s spiritual ping-pong match will resonate with anyone who’s ever thought:

  • “I don’t fit in this faith box anymore.”
  • “How do I find hope when everything feels hopeless?”
  • “Can I believe without dismissing all my doubts?”
  • “Is it possible to find peace even when nothing is okay?”

With humor, science, and surprising vulnerability, Taylor navigates both faith transitions and grief with uncommon wisdom, showing us that our beliefs can be our greatest source of strength when facing life’s most painful challenges.

Whether you’re firmly planted in faith, happily doing your own thing, or somewhere in the messy middle, this book offers refreshing permission to examine where you are and where you want to be. Like Julie, maybe you’ll discover that making room for questions is actually your secret superpower!

What a treat to hear so many thoughts/beliefs/feelings I’ve had articulated so clearly! I love Julie’s perspectives on faith, Jesus, trials, grief, and how human nature can sometimes get in the way of the good stuff. I related to many of her stories and thoughts and found new perspectives along the way. Thanks for writing & publishing your words!

Never had to 2x the speed to move it along quicker.

K but for real, if you hate religion and are really upset, actually maybe don’t read this. But if you are in a limbo, and you genuinely feel like you just don’t know what to believe anymore, this book won’t tell you what to believe, but it’ll help you feel at peace with wherever you are at, remove shame, and give hope that you’ll land where you need to. Super relatable. Will have my teenagers read it for sure!

perfect pace, perfect length, and the content was beyond amazing!!!

I started following Julie a while ago after I went to an invent she spoke at. I’ve been very impressed by her perspective on faith and her experience she shares. Her POV has been very healing to something I can’t my finger on yet. I loved it and would recommend.

After following Julie online for several years, I feel like I can say that this book is so authentically Julie. She has an incredible way of putting to words how I’ve felt about faith and belief for a long time now. Belief is a choice and a process and it makes your life better NOW. I love the hope she conveys, even through incredible hardship. Thank you for sharing your story. Simon Forever.
