When the apocalypse kicks off hundreds of years too early, the System is still asleep and Earth quickly becomes a chaotic mess of pop-up Dungeons and roaming monsters. With the alien invaders treating the planet’s destruction as a resource-gathering fire sale, things are looking bleak.

Connor Keene hoped being shot in the line of duty would be the only low point of his day.

Then he died, and that sucked. But now, he’s been resurrected with a powerful new Class, the Punisher, and a mission to hunt down the invaders. The catch? Being a Punisher marks him as a pariah to the very people he's trying to protect. He has the power to fight back and perhaps help save Earth, but the whole world will hate him for it.

His only backup is an overly cheerful System Sprite who might be insane, a partner sharing her mind with an alien assassin murder-lizard, and a Crafter whose gear mostly doesn’t explode.

It’s time to punish the System before it blue-screens Earth for good.

Great start.

Both great and not so good, something feel missing to be awesome. Hope the books after will grow on me...

i’m about halfway through and it’s criminal that this doesn’t have any reviews yet. the voice actors are phenomenal the story so far is great and if you’re also someone who adores litrpgs, this is a must read/listen. not to mention, the writing is vivid and the characters are so fun to follow.
if you enjoy dcc then you’ll definitely enjoy this!!

The whole thing’s good

Great narration, and a very cool take on the system/voice in your head type guide. Also having it situated pre-apocalypse was also refreshing!

Revenge served with a side of sarcasm

The humor hits at just the right moments, balancing out the darker, more intense scenes so you’re never stuck in one mood too long.
The narration by Jack Fields and Annie Ellicott brings an extra layer of personality that makes the snark and tension pop even more. It’s the kind of performance that keeps you saying “just one more chapter”… until suddenly it’s 2 a.m. and you’ve got regrets.

A tale or 2 worlds

The voice actors were refreshing and did a great job. 90% or maybe more of the story was fun and exciting. Then the end happened. Didn't see or talk to his friends who had gone through hell with him. No closure with Joyfull. All that work on those characters and bam gone. The last part of the story felt forced and frankly not entertaining. I mean you kept referencing oh I will keep this loot for the crafter. And then it was over. And if I am not mistaken the ending was read as the U.S. army major not as the lead. Started out with a bang and ended with a barley audible wheeze. I will more than likely get the next 1.
