What if the body you always dreamed of came with a cost you couldn’t imagine? Adam Stenson’s quest for muscle turns into a deadly spiral of obsession, rage, and self-destruction.

Power. Obsession. Betrayal.

Adam has spent his whole life feeling small — physically, emotionally, mentally. When his fiancée’s affection starts to fade and his confidence crumbles under the weight of self-doubt, he turns to the one thing that promises power: steroids.

What begins as a simple plan to bulk up becomes a full-blown addiction. The gym becomes his temple, the mirror his judge. Every injection brings him closer to the man he thinks he wants to be — and further from the man he really is.

As his body grows, so does the rage, the paranoia, the hunger for more. Friendships collapse, love turns fragile, and the side effects refuse to be ignored. But by the time Adam realizes he’s in too deep, it may already be too late.

From Chris Levine, the writer, producer, and star of the critically acclaimed Hollywood film Anabolic Life, Most Muscular is a raw, unflinching look at the dark side of body obsession — the cost of validation, and the fine line between self-improvement and self-destruction.

This was a really well written novel about a topic that is not discussed much, and it really moved me. We talk a lot about women's issues with body image, but men have them as well. It's a problem that is pervasive in our society, so I applaud the author for taking it on.

I listened to the audiobook on Audible. It was narrated by the author, and I was afraid it would not play well, but Mr. Levine did a great job. I listened to it in one sitting, because the narration was smooth. It kept me engaged throughout, and I really wanted to find out what would happen to our MMC. The dialogue and descriptions were great, especially the descriptions when he is shooting up the steroids. They were so vivid that I almost felt the pain myself. Oof, my phobia of needles was blaring.

Highly recommend it. Deducted a quarter of a star just because I am not a fan of the omniscient point of view. Others might not mind.
