A historic castle in the Tuscan countryside, picturesque vineyards, lines of cypress trees, and an eccentric Englishman falling from the belltower.

Italy, 1929. No sooner have master sleuth Lord Edgington and his grandson-apprentice begun their grand tour of Europe than a wealthy landowner turns up dead. On arriving at the palatial Castello di Montegufoni, the duo must uncover the owner’s secrets and pick from a host of dubious suspects to find out who did him in.

Could one of his three rebellious heirs have pushed him from the belltower? Or is a disgruntled local to blame? Confronted with the dead man’s many former lovers, a shady priest, a corrupt police officer and a serious language barrier, the detectives have their work cut out. But when the body count rises, it’s a race against the clock to solve the puzzle before the killer strikes again.

“Murder in an Italian Castle” is the first book in the brand new “Lord Edgington Investigates Abroad” series of 1920s whodunits. Complete with stunning real-life locations, mouth-watering food, an adorable golden retriever, and a cast of cunning characters, this might just be the warm, witty and wonderfully twisty mystery you need.

Christopher and Lord Edgington are just as enjoyable in Italy as in England. Christopher continues to be completely endearing. I appreciate all of the research Mr. Brown did re the village, castle, and food of the region. I truly could imagine being in the kitchen watching Senora Acciaioli making pasta - so much so that I want to learn to make homemade pasta myself! And there is a happy ending, of sorts, for the characters involved. As usual, George Blagden’s narration is perfect. Enjoy Italy with Lord Edgington and Chrissy!

Benedict Brown delivers another Lord Edgington Investigates wonder. The characters continue to evolve and the mysteries continue to confound.
The story detail’s are rich and expressive. The details bring the location and the history to life. And it is only made better, if possible, by the expert narration of George Blagden.

This series is new to me and so I had to spend some time getting used to the characters. There were some sudden turns and miss directions that resolved well but were initially concerning to a new reader. I will be listening to the next book…now!
