A fateful encounter with a killer in the streets of Reno would change a life forever. Just not the one intended.

Two years ago I escaped a life of abuse and captivity at the hands of the Callahan Family, head of the Irish mob on the East Coast from Nova Scotia to Connecticut. I’d do anything to outrun my past and the ghosts that haunt me.

After thwarting a serial killer I dub “Hoodie Guy” and becoming BFFs with his van, I expected to ride off into the sunrise after his funeral. Like Sandy and Zuko at the end of Grease, but with less lycra and more blood splatter!

Unfortunately for me, the owners of Hoodie Guy’s lonely burial plot out in the desert catch me glamping and decide to take me prisoner. But, to loosely quote a motivational speaker I quite admire; I’m not locked in here with them, they’re locked in here with me. And this bitch is crazy!

“Becoming Indigo” is intended for listeners aged 18+. If you like dark humor, a crazy fierce FMC, sexy bikers, vicious mobsters, and most importantly: BEST FRIENDS, this book is for you. The spice level is at a simmer in this book for reasons you’ll soon discover, but don’t worry! The FMC will get her happy ending in more ways than one in the sequel, but this book ends on a cliff hanger.

Tropes Include: found family, mafia, MC romance, slow burn, forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine, and secret identity

Trigger warning: This novel contains material that may disturb some listeners. It includes: graphic violence, references to past SA, references to past animal abuse, death of a family member (off-page), and torture. Your mental health is important, so please listen responsibly.

I received a free copy of the audiobook from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily.

OH. MY. BOB. I absolutely loved this book! I kept founding and making excuses to listen to it. The main character was hilarious, a total badass and I want to be her best friend in real life! The book had multiple points of view tons of fun pop culture references, and even a Nightmare Hangover recipe.

Now please excuse me while I devour the second book and try a plan a girls trip with Indigo, Lennon Sheila and Cricket!

I received this audiobook as an ALC, and I can honestly say I have never been more grateful for randomly stumbling across an author’s TikTok. Before that moment, I had never heard of this author or this series and now I’m just mad it took me this long to find it. The upside? Book two is already out, which means I can immediately dive into a binge read without the painful wait.

Now let’s talk about the audiobook experience because wow. The narrator absolutely delivered. Single narration audiobooks can sometimes be hit or miss, especially when it comes to portraying different genders. Too often, the shifts feel forced or exaggerated, which can pull you out of the story. That was not the case here. The transitions between male and female perspectives felt natural, the range of character voices was impressive, and the subtle use of accents added so much depth. I was fully immersed from start to finish.

As for the writing itself, the author excels at character work. This is a dark romcom set in a modern day setting, so while there isn’t heavy world building, the character development more than makes up for it. Each character is introduced with care, and their backstories are woven in so seamlessly that I never once felt confused or overwhelmed. Everything felt intentional, polished, and easy to follow.

I’m keeping this review spoiler free, but just know this: if you’re even remotely considering picking this up…do it. Add it to your TBR, and then move it straight to the top. This is one of those stories you’ll want to experience right now.

This was laugh out loud, giggling to myself fun. Not only was Indigo an amazing character but her story tugged at the heart strings. Her manic brain should probably be studied but she has a heart gold even after all she's been through. Every last side character needs their own novella or book hands down. O and Priest hmm I was on the fence with that one but he slowly warmed up. Jumping into book 2 now because leaving on THAT cliffhanger how could you not.

Indigo is mayhem incarnate..

I’m a frequent reader of the MC romance genre, and this story blew me away. "Girl" is an absolute icon from page one. The way she handles the Los Cuervos MC after accidentally dumping a serial killer's body in their backyard is legendary.

Girl was unhinged from moment one. Not just in a morally grey way…

Los Cuervos were stunned when this woman almost kicked the behinds of several members. They were even more stunned to realize she had ended a serial killer they had been trying to track down for two years. The killer had murdered the club president’s daughter. Now the club owed her a debt. Much to the dismay of the club’s VP, Priest.

The men in Los Cuervos were written wonderfully too. All of their street names were great and Girl’s nicknames even better!

If you like books with a Motorcycle Club, the Bratva, and an absolutely unhinged FMC this book is for you.

The narration in this was great. She did a great job narrating both the men and the women in the book. Only having one narrator did not take away from the story as it did sometimes in other books. I am hoping for two narrators for the next book. Duet narrations would be magical!

Thank to Meredith Grey for the ALC.

This book is a great slow burn and we can all see small parts of ourselves in this book. I loved reading the book and now the audio book brings it all together, and it keeps your spot between them. This is a book that you can laugh and cry to.

Loved the book and now the audio book!
