The river that was supposed to save them is trying to kill them.

The Black River hasn't run high in years. The drought turned it into a dusty channel — cracked mud, dead fish, a trickle you could step across without getting your boots wet.

Then the creek breaches upstream, and the river remembers what it is.

A wall of water roars through the valley without warning. A family is stranded in the middle of the torrent with no way out and the water still rising. To the south, a wildfire is crowning through the canopy, cutting off the only road into the canyon.

Cal Walker has faced fire. He's faced flood. He's never faced both at once, closing from opposite directions, with civilians caught in the middle and his options running out faster than the clock.

Some rescues have a margin for error. This one doesn't.

White Water is the second book in the Black Mountain Series — a relentless dual-disaster thriller that puts Cal Walker between a flood that will drown you and a fire that won't wait.

Good grief, I can’t do this - he’s rescuing the same bunch of teens from the Devil’s Bowl from fire once again. Although this time around he seems to be psychic and know ms their names before he’s been told. Five teens suddenly changed to only two. Ash, his dog just changed from male to female. He was on the ledge of the Devil’s bowl with the two teens (yes, Emma’s the asthmatic makes her usual appearance) and suddenly he’s in his truck and jumping out of it.

Oh and now the two rescued that he left with Maya seem to have vanished into thin air. And somehow he accessed that old teleporter and he and Maya suddenly move from the top of a ravine cliff to onboard a plane. Argh. What the hell?!

I give up. This is the same stupidity as the first book, Flash Point. I’m out for good after chapter 4 as I no longer have the patience or interest to finish this bumbling nonsense.

Edit: it doesn’t get any better with book 3 either.
Or 4.

I’d suggest avoiding this idiotic series if the first two books are any indication.
