They see a blonde bimbo with a press badge and a polite smile. Not one of them knows what I really am.

My name is Morgan Monroe. To the newsroom, I'm the ambitious new reporter who probably slept her way onto the crime beat. To the world, I'm nobody.

None of them can believe I'm actually good at what I do. Good! Let them keep underestimating me.

It's because I'm a Voodoo Witch of the Baptiste bloodline and a covert GUARDIAN agent. I’m also the only person in this city who can feel the dark magic bleeding up through the cobblestones while everyone with the power to stop it insists on looking away.

A private plane crashes into Lake Pontchartrain. Two dead with no distress call, and by morning the story has simply vanished. I know a cover-up when I see it, and when my magic senses the sabotage, I feel it in my bones. Something ancient is waking beneath New Orleans, and the agency I'm supposed to trust would rather accuse me of melodrama and sensationalism than admit a woman like me might be right.

Fine. I'll prove it myself.

But I'm not the only one hunting for the truth. There's Adrian, a gorgeous and infuriating, hundred-year-old vampire who knows far more than he'll ever say. There’s Rafe, a werewolf detective and the first man to look at my magic like it's a gift instead of a curse. And there’s Izzy, a fiery redhead witch who somehow already feels like the sister I never had. One of these men could get me killed. The other might be the only reason I get out alive. And I'd burn this city to the ground before I let anything happen to her.

The establishment has been telling me my entire life to stay quiet, small, and never make waves.

They should have known better than to give me an opportunity to prove myself.

Great story

The worst narration I've ever experienced. I couldn't get past half the words not being pronounced correctly and the tone being completely wrong in spots.

AI narrator is terrible

It is hard to follow, no real flow, no voice distinguished between characters. I thought the AI would do a much better job shifting between characters, this one is the same all the way through. the characters are too close together during the oration to keep the changes separate. not a great listen, sorry to say.

I think the story deserves a new narrator and a second chance.

the story seems way better that the AI narration

⭐⭐⭐✨ (3.5 stars)
I liked the overall idea of the story, but it never fully pulled me in. The virtual voice narration wasn't good and made it difficult to stay immersed. Between the narration and the story not quite clicking for me, I won't be continuing the series.
