Untreated trauma and ignored grief can cause a family the worst problems

Can't believe Skaggs was just misunderstood all this time. Technically, the wanton playboy was only a facade to hide his overall mission to find his mate but he wore the mask so well, he managed to fool his whole crew whose job ironically often depended on subterfuge.

The way Skaggs' entire being immediately reacted to Nala when she crash landed on his farm. His entire interaction with her and recognition of her fears and concerns spoke to the frequency his team had to rescue women who had been violated, as well as his personal views on the worth of women and mates beyond the physical. He gave Nala the freedom to choose the pace of their situation and subsequent relationship. Even after he realized she was his shellani, he made sure she knew she had just as much control over what happened between them because he knew her history of being kidnapped and forced to work in the brothel had left her feeling broken, trapped and terrified.

But Skaggs aint never played about Nala once. Not her safety, peace nor health. And definitely didn't play about Nala being his mate despite his father's objections and threats that if he took a non-Zyanthan mate, he would ensure Skaggs lost his warrior status. And this is where Nala's true self shone because she was determined to stand up for Skaggs against his father or anyone who viewed him as less than a warrior and honourable man. Even against Skaggs himself, who had allowed his father's negative talk over the years to poison his mind and question his worth and skills. So the whole time Nala was learning from Skaggs how to accept loving and being truly loved by another, Skaggs was learning from Nala how to love himself amd recognize the value of his own accomplishments despite his father's manipulations and machinations against him.
