When a murder occurs at the estate, Scotland Yard sends the formidable and brilliant Superintendent Battle to unravel the mystery and Bundle described as a 1920's "It Girl" is drawn into the investigation, much to Battle's chagrin. Bundle proves to be an adroit amateur sleuth, however, and manages to assist Battle in his investigation so that when he returns to Chimneys to explore a second murder in "The Seven Dials Mystery" (1929), Battle is far less reluctant to let Bundle meddle in the inquiry and she soon helps expose a secret and anonymous cabal of plotters.
