Received as an audio review copy through Story Origin, this is an honest review. Narrated with extraordinary passion by Ben Hauck, Echoes of Fortune is a wild, adrenaline-filled adventure that perfectly blends historical events of the French & Indian war to a modern day treasure hunt that's as crazy as any Goonie journey. It's deeply personal for Jack Sullivan and his companions and wonderfully reflective of history and the deep and dark reasonings why we engaged with the Native Americans the way our country did.

Highly recommended.

Echoes of Fortune: The Search for Braddock’s Lost Gold has a really interesting premise, blending historical events from the French & Indian War with a modern-day treasure hunt. On paper, it feels like something right up my alley, especially with all the comparisons to “National Treasure meets Indiana Jones.”

I listened to the audiobook, and I do want to say the narrator, Ben Hauck, did a great job. The delivery was clear and engaging, which helped keep things moving even when I wasn’t fully invested in the characters early on.

That said, I struggled a bit to connect with the characters at the beginning. It took me a while to feel drawn into the story, and I found myself waiting for it to really pick up. Around the halfway point, though, things definitely improved. The pacing felt stronger, the story became more engaging, and I started enjoying the overall adventure much more.

By the end, I was glad I stuck with it. While it didn’t fully grip me from the start, it ultimately turned into a decent historical thriller with an interesting concept and satisfying payoff.

It took a while to fully hook me in

A history lesson and a treasure hunt. Throw in a little romance. Question the loyalty of some friends. Dangerous risk taking, seeking the lost gold. Bouncing back to 1755 when the gold was hidden away. Interesting. Exciting. Entertaining.

Ben Hauck's narration was perfect. He presents the characters and their excitement wonderfully. I give him 5 stars as well.

This was my first experience with this author's work. I thought the story was thrilling, convoluted, and entertaining. I enjoyed how the author combined the past history of how the treasure came to be buried juxtaposed with the contemporary story of those who were searching for the lost treasure. I liked Jack, Steve, and Emma and their intertwined stories. The more I listened to Ben Hauck's narration the better I enjoyed it. At first, his performance was a little more professorial than I liked it, but the longer I listened, the more I liked it. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
