What has happened? Why are so there so many “soft boys” in our assemblies? Maybe it’s poor parenting. Maybe it’s the curse of affluence. Maybe there’s just something in the water. The problem is, when Christian men are spineless, Christian women become headless.
And this tends to be a self-perpetuating phenomenon, because when these spineless men and headless woman become parents, how will they raise their sons to be strong husbands and their daughters to be submissive wives?
If we don’t actively work at helping the fathers in our churches to be strong leaders and to raise their sons as strong masculine men, the church will slip away into a pool of soft, wishy-washy ineffectiveness.
Someone needs to step up to arrest this trend. Thankfully, God has promised, “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord” (Malachi 4:5). As I look around today, all I can say is: Elijah must come!
