Wilderness survival suspense story with an underlying dynamic of a lost and restored father/son bond.

Very well written/read/performed. The wilderness suspense aspects keeps you hooked while the father son dynamic creates a nice emotional attachment to the protagonist. Great read for all those blue collar fathers out there with a teenage son or those who we're raised by blue collared fathers. The story against a little bogged down in the middle, but the narrator doesn't nice job of keeping you interested.

The audiobook narrator made it worth it

The narrator really took me into Cole’s mind, way of thinking, and problem solving. The story itself probably wouldn’t have kept me interested, but the narrator built up,suspense and intensity that made me root for Cole and worried for Web. A good, quick, and entertaining read!

Interesting short story, great narrator

I have spent some time in very cold climates and found the stort interesting - the author clearly knows something about cold weather survival.
The strong point of this story was really the narration - well paced, managed to really get inside the main characters head. Tone, inflections well matched to the story!

Cold, Lonely, Gripping, and Brilliantly Narrated!

On the surface, this seems like yet another tale of man vs. nature…it’s not! As the author makes abundantly clear and the narrator makes even more interesting, this is a tale about a man’s ability to overcome himself, both against a snow-beaten wilderness and against the tempest inside him.

Don’t get me wrong, this is very much a tale of something going wrong and a prepared, knowledgeable individual trying to survive, but it’s more than just that. The grounded reality of what could actually go wrong (even when you’re doing everything right) is as much gripping suspense as it is cautionary tale. Equally important though is the running dialog inside the character’s mind; what truly goes through the mind of a man confronted with the possibility of meeting the end. Does he stay in the present, struggle with the past, or hope for the future? Should he focus on staying positive to try and get out alive, or is this a wakeup call for his life.

What could be a boring walk through a snowy day gone wrong and more wrong, is brilliantly brought to life by a narrator who nails the portrayal of both the fury of nature and the futility of man’s inner thoughts. Cold as the snow. Relentless as the wind. As impossible to escape as one’s thoughts. Leonard’s portrayal of a man at, what may be his end, is as engaging as it is surprising for such a new narrator. His grounded narration and engrossing style turn this book into an experience not to be missed!

What is going through your head?

If you want to spend some quality time insides someone’s head who has found themselves in an emergency situation out in the cold, this is the story for you. There is quite a bit of rational thought and even more self evaluation going on. Makes you think what decisions would you choose to proceed with.
