The boy that kills the monsters in the woods

Duskbound

Velik’s childhood was changed in a moment when he received a unique class. Since that day, he has spent the last 10 years hunting and killing the monsters of the woods near the boarder towns. The problem is that something has changed and the monsters are now more numerous and higher levels. If something doesn’t change, he will fail and the border towns will be overrun.

This was great start to a LitRPG series. The magic system is really interesting and similar to the author’s other series. It makes me wonder if they are a connected universe. The characters are really well done and make for great interactions. I’m excited to see where the story is going! Gary Bennett did a great job with the narration.

Overall a good book

The book is good and i found myself very interested in the story after the atypical start. It took several hours to get into the book, but it quickly found its pace and became a good listen. The narrator grew on me and will probably get a higher rating with the next book, but he is different from what I typically love and it will take time for me to adjust to full appreciation.

the only thing wrong was sometimes lose track of the split off between the monster killers

The narrator is fine

The narrator's performance is what I'd called "muted", but not a monotone. If I had to choose, I'd pick that over someone who tries too hard to inject emotion into every sentence, because that just wears me out. Still, the muted performance does affect the overall tone of the story, which is calm.

Overall, the story is wholesome; all the characters are good people and heroic in their own way.

good but tinny

the narrators voice is really tinny, not sure what editor allowed that but they should have adjusted the EQ.
