The complete series in a single offering!

All of the incredibly powerful high mages died out centuries ago. Nobody expected one to return.

I was just a simple blacksmith apprentice when a visit by the mages of Essalin confirmed what I’d long suspected—I could touch the aether. Destined to be a mage, I’m plucked from my village alongside a feisty redhead so we could journey to the fabled city of the high mages to learn how to control and wield the aether.

The road there isn’t going to be easy though. Brutal orc raiders are spreading across the continent for the first time in a hundred years, and rogue mages are stirring chaos in their wake. I find some allies along the way, including a highborn blonde with a sassy mouth, but it’s clear to me that I’ll need all the help I can get.

Especially when my coming shakes the foundations of the entire continent—all the way to the long-dormant throne of the High Mage King itself.

I hope they’re ready for me.

Jessica does a great job narrating with different voices. The author defines personalities and sticks to them, progression keeps me reading and wanting more, the sex references are light considering the given age of the protagonist. Overall, a great book series so far.

Great voice acting, good story, well written.

Story is action packed and drama filled with plenty of twisting plot lines to keep it interesting. I only wish there was more.

Great Adventure story

I found the some of the dialog from the main character to be simple and dumb at times.

It's OK

No matter how what metric I use to rate these books, I just can't seem to find one that I would rate as good.

Nothing "good" about it.

One of the…stories…that ever existed. The whole thing felt like an excuse to get to the sex scenes. I like my smut, but it felt crass. Like, take a break from the list and let some actual emotion just happen!

Unlike some others in the harem-lit genre, nothing here felt earned. Book 2 is the mage school book! But he never went to class. Instead we got the murder plot line. Book 3 and, now he’s king! Better move onto the political intrigue! Book four and he’s the master of his abilities and the strongest mage in the world, we are told, for…reasons. No learning or progression. It just…is. But don’t worry, he’s gonna have plenty of sex to make up for it!

Jessica Threet was great as always, but the male narrator was just…emotionless. Every sentence out of his mouth was smug and sounds like it should be followed by a tip of the fedora. It may work better when reading but compared to Jessica’s narration, it was severely lacking. I’ll probably stick with Bruce Sentar for my spicy but loving harems.

Story was fine. With some problems.
