Seeking a quiet weekend away to reconnect with her teenage son, Wes, Nora Kincaid plans a camping trip deep in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. But a historic, blistering heatwave has turned the sprawling wilderness into a tinderbox. When a rapidly spreading crown fire cuts off their only road out, the campers at Cinder Lake are suddenly trapped.

As the temperature soars and the campground water supply mysteriously vanishes, panic sets in. But the flames and the heat are not the only threats. The severe drought has forced something out of the deep bogs. An apex predator driven by primal thirst and territorial rage has arrived. Towering, ferocious, and incredibly strong, the beast begins stalking the panicked vacationers.

With social order collapsing and a massive cryptid hunting them through the smoke, Nora must find the strength to lead her son to safety. The only way out is a brutal night march across scorched earth, and the Ash Man is waiting in the shadows.
