Publisher's summary

I rule the Ruthless Kings’ Houston Chapter. When problems arise, I crush them.

My life has left me unprepared for Bella though. She’s my daughter’s best friend, and a beacon of innocence amid the shadows. She’s the corrupt sheriff’s daughter. But who is she to me?

She’s the girl I’m irresistibly drawn to.

Her light dazzles against the harsh world of shadows I command. But her father’s cruelty kindles a protective fire in me. Who I am and how I feel about her roils inside me like two oceans crashing together.

And in the maelstrom deadly trouble brews. The Las Rosas Negras cartel, a menace I thought eradicated, returns. And Bella’s father is now their ally.

In the past, this would have just been a brutal turf war. Now it’s more. It’s a personal crusade to protect Bella from their tyranny, and shield her fragile light. This city is mine, but what’s a city compared to the woman I’ve needed all along?

If I have to, I’ll topple it into rubble and ruin to save her.

Author's Note: This book deals with some dark topics, including physical and mental abuse. The hero, Beast, is a possessive antihero. More specific info can be found in the content warning inside.

Virtual voice not good

I don’t like the virtual voice narration. It is too robotic and it does not add dimension to the characters as much as real voice actors do. The story was very good.

Confusing, lost, hard to follow

This might be a decent read on kindle, but it wasn’t a great Audible listen. Half the time I was so confused and lost because I couldn’t tell who was talking, what was going on.

Not sold on Virtual voice

I liked the storyline I love the author but virtual voice not so much. there's no voice inflection there's no way to tell when the chapter changes characters at first until you listen for a little while but the virtual voice has no voice inflection as far as different characters female versus male. also it needs to figure out how to discern from wind to wind and lead and Lead and live and live

Hard to Follow Performance

This has the potential to be a great read. However, with the virtual voice it was an extremely hard listen as it was very difficult to discern which character was narrating for which chapter since the name of the character was not announced at the start of each chapter. I got extremely confused at times and had to restart chapters just to figure out who I was following.

Love not worth the pain it caused others

The amount of damage done to important characters wasn't worth the 2 "lovebirds" getting their HEA.
Didn't care enough about the main characters to get past the "ick" feeling that would make it ok for them to throw their best friend and daughter to the wolves so they could be together.
Turned me off to reading anymore mc romances for a while.

The bad narration

I am only about a 3rd of the way through and I love the story line but I don’t know if I can make it the rest of the way with that narration! I won’t purchase another with computer narration
