About this listen

The captivating new thriller, perfect for fans of Saltburn

'Perfect for fans of tales in which the rich and entitled get their comeuppance… deliciously twisty' Daily Mail

'Flawless, beautiful, moving, shocking and wildly compelling… I wish I could read it all over again' Lisa Jewell

When Victoria escapes her broken home for university in London, she is determined to reinvent herself and make a fresh start. She falls in love with Nick, who welcomes her into his privileged circle of friends, opening her eyes to a world she only ever dreamt of.

Then life takes a darker turn.

Twenty-five years later, the circle is reunited alongside a host of glittering guests to celebrate the wedding of Hollywood darling Ingrid Olsson to ruthlessly well-connected Julian Draper. Victoria has spent years trying to forget Nick and put the horror of what happened behind her. Now she has to face the past she tried so hard to bury.

As the champagne flows and painful memories resurface, Victoria can’t shake the feeling that some people seem to get away with everything.

But maybe not this time.

Maybe this time, someone will pay the ultimate price.

Twisty

This book grabbed me from the beginning and didn’t let go until very end. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy dual time lines and twist that you weren’t expecting.

So disappointing...

I wasn't expecting literature, but The Guardian gave this a good mini-review in its Best Recent Crime and Thrillers Roundup column, and it sounded like another addition to the new and popular genre of horrible rich people getting their comeuppance, I find these stories quite satisfying now that oligarchy and plutocracy have replaced any semblance of western democracy. Instead it was another new and popular genre which seems to be a surefire moneymaker for potboiler writers. I won't mention that genre to avoid spoilers. The title is not ironic. Embarrassing.
